# Two-way link

> AI Table two-way link field: link records between two tables and the relationship mirrors automatically. Allow multiple records per cell, filter candidates by view, view full row details from either side, and jump between tables in one click.

# 1 Overview

Use the **Two-way link** field to link one or more records between table A and table B — the relationship is **mirrored automatically** to A from B. You can view the full row from either side, **jump** between tables, and jump back in one click.

**Note**: a one-way or two-way link cell only displays the **primary field** of the linked record. To surface other fields, use [Linked reference](/aitable/fields/field-types/linked-reference).

# 2 Basics

## 2.1 Add a two-way link field

Click ➕ in the upper-right of the title bar — pick **Two-way link** under field types.

## 2.2 Configure the two-way link

Pick a table to link to. Cross-**table** linking inside the same AI Table is supported; cross-**AI Table** linking is not.

**Allow multiple records**: lets one cell link to multiple records.

**Filter records by view**: the records on offer match the fields in the chosen view — adjust the view's visible fields to update the link list automatically.

## 2.3 Add or remove linked records

Double-click a cell to **check** to add or **uncheck** to remove records — or click X in the cell to remove. Use the **search bar** above the list to filter, or check the **select-all** box to pick everything.

## 2.4 Quickly create and link a new record

If you have **add-record permission** on the linked table, you can add a new record there directly while linking.

Open the cell dropdown — click **➕** in the lower-left to add a new record in the linked table.

Fill in the blank record card and click **Close card** in the upper-right — the new record syncs to both tables and the current list.

Check it and confirm in the lower-right.

## 2.5 Delete a two-way link field

Right-click the column header and pick **Delete field**. Removing a two-way link from one table also removes the corresponding mirror from the linked table.

## 2.6 Jump to the linked table

When adding linked records, the linked table's name appears above the search bar — click to jump. The destination is the view chosen in **Filter records by view**.

## 2.7 Convert between two-way and one-way

Double-click the link field title and switch **field type** to **One-way link** — the linked table will no longer auto-link back.

**Two-way → one-way**: the other table's mirror field is removed automatically. To keep A's link field but drop B's, change **A**'s field to one-way.

**One-way → two-way**: the linked table gets an automatically-created mirror field, populated with the matching records.

# 3 Common scenarios

Two-way link a Students table and a Courses table — view a student's enrolled courses in Students, view a course's students in Courses; edit one side, the other syncs.

Scenario: **Students** ↔ **Courses**.

Steps: in the **Students** table, add a **two-way link** field — pick the **Courses** table. Double-click a student's cell, check the courses they take, and confirm. In the dialog, click below the card title to jump to the **Courses** table — the course is already linked to the enrolled student.

* Q: How is two-way link different from one-way?

  A: Two-way is an upgrade of one-way.

  A: Yes. Two-way data is connected — deleting a record in either table removes it from the linked field on the other side.
* Q: Can I link records across AI Tables?

  A: Within one AI Table, you can link across tables. You can't link records from another AI Table — see Cross-AI-Table data sync.
* Q: How do I delete the link on one side only?

  A: To keep A's link field but drop B's, double-click A's two-way link header and switch field type to **One-way link**. B's mirror is removed automatically; A's data is preserved.
