# Clock-in FAQ

> Answers to common clock-in questions, including how employees clock in, missing Attendance app, and clock-in location errors, to help employees and admins troubleshoot quickly.

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion id="q1" title="How do employees clock in?">
    Before clocking in, confirm with your company Admin whether clock-in is required via the DingTalk app or via a Time Clock.

    * **Clock in via the DingTalk app:** Open **Mobile DingTalk > Workbench >** select the correct Company **> Attendance >** tap the blue clock-in button in the center to clock in.

    * **Clock in via a Time Clock:** Use fingerprint or facial recognition on your company's Time Clock to clock in directly.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion id="q2" title="The Attendance or Approval app is missing from the Workbench">
    If a work app (such as Attendance, Approval, or Check-in) suddenly disappears from your work interface, troubleshoot as follows:

    1. Confirm you are on the correct Organization's Workbench. On mobile DingTalk, tap the Organization name at the top of the **Workbench** to switch between Organization Workbenches. (You cannot switch if you belong to only one Organization.)

    2. Ask your Admin to check whether the app's visibility is set to **Partially visible**.

    * **Mobile:** Open **Mobile DingTalk > Workbench >** tap the **three horizontal bars** on the left **> All Apps >** tap the **Edit** button for the corresponding app **> App Management > Current Users > Edit visibility scope >** check whether it is set to **Visible to selected Users**, then change it to **Visible to all** to fix the issue.

    * **Desktop:** The Admin signs in to the [**Admin Console**](https://oa.dingtalk.io) **> Workbench > App Management > Attendance / Check-in / Approval, etc. >** hover over the app **> Settings > App visibility scope >** check whether it is set to **Visible to selected Employees**, then change it to **Visible to all Employees** to fix the issue.

    3. Ask the Admin to check whether the app has been disabled under [**Admin Console**](https://oa.dingtalk.io) **> Workbench > App Management > Disabled apps**. If it is disabled, re-enable it.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion id="q3" title="Incorrect attendance time causes early leave or other errors">
    If you can choose your own shift, select the appropriate shift for clock-in. Otherwise, contact the attendance administrator to change your shift.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion id="q4" title="How can an individual Employee request a clock-in time adjustment?">
    Provide the details to your Admin, who will make the adjustment.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion id="q5" title="I worked past the latest clock-out time and cannot clock out">
    Confirm with your Admin whether a latest clock-out time is set.

    * If it is set, confirm the latest clock-out time for your shift with the Admin.

    * If it is not set and you missed the clock-out time due to overtime, contact the Admin promptly the next day to explain the situation. Ask the Admin to change your attendance record to a normal clock-out, and confirm the clock-in time rules for your shift to avoid future errors.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion id="q6" title="Clock-in shows a location error or fails">
    Attendance location deviations are related to the current network environment, address environment, GPS positioning, or base station positioning. Turn on Wi-Fi to assist with positioning. If accurate positioning is still not possible, move to an open outdoor area and avoid positioning in underground areas, subways, elevators, or other scenarios with poor GPS signal.

    Verify the attendance range with your Admin. If Wi-Fi is on during positioning and the result does not match the attendance Location, tap field clock-in to open the field clock-in page. The map on that page shows your Location and the attendance range separately. Check whether the attendance range is correct. If not, report it to the attendance administrator to modify the attendance range. If there is a small deviation between the detected location and the attendance group location, ask the Admin to slightly expand the attendance range.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion id="q7" title="How do Employees submit a makeup clock-in?">
    If the Admin has set the makeup clock-in types to missed clock-in, late arrival, early leave, or normal, Employees can submit a makeup clock-in request for missed clock-ins, accidental late arrivals, absenteeism, field clock-ins, or other clock-in records. Makeup clock-in Approval forms currently cannot be submitted on desktop; submit them from mobile instead.

    * **Same-day makeup clock-in:** Open **Mobile DingTalk > Workbench > Attendance >** tap the yellow exclamation mark for **clock-in / clock-out missed clock-in > Fix error > Makeup clock-in request**.

    * **Makeup clock-in for a previous day:** Open **Mobile DingTalk > Workbench > Attendance > Statistics > My statistics >** switch Date **> Fix error > Makeup clock-in request**. Once the makeup clock-in request is approved, the erroneous clock-in record is automatically changed to normal.

    * If the clock-in is not linked to any attendance group, flexible working hours attendance group, or rest-day overtime, submit a makeup clock-in request via **Apply** on the clock-in page, or via **Workbench > OA Approval**.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion id="q8" title="Still shows an error after submitting a makeup clock-in">
    If attendance still shows a missed clock-in, late arrival, early leave, or other error after the makeup clock-in request is submitted, troubleshoot as follows:

    * Check whether the makeup clock-in request has been approved.

    * Check whether the makeup clock-in request uses the system's built-in approval template. The Admin can verify this at [**Admin Console**](https://oa.dingtalk.io) **> Workbench > App Management > Open > OA Approval**. Only requests using the built-in approval template show as normal after Approval.

    * If the Organization Admin modifies the Employee's shift again after the makeup clock-in request is approved, the Employee's clock-in time is based on the shift most recently adjusted by the Admin.

    * If the **Submit attendance request** shortcut is not generated on the clock-in page before you submit the makeup clock-in Approval form, resubmit the makeup clock-in Approval form.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion id="q9" title="What should I do if the clock-out time has passed after working overtime?">
    **Example: An Employee finishes overtime and finds that the clock-in page only allows clocking in for the next day's shift.**

    Each shift has a corresponding clock-in time range. Once the current time exceeds the clock-out time range, the system can no longer generate a corresponding clock-out record. If you worked overtime too late to clock out, handle it as follows: confirm that you have not clocked out for the current shift, then submit a makeup clock-in request.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion id="q10" title="What should I do if I cannot clock in when working overtime in the morning on a day with a fixed shift?">
    **Example: An Employee sometimes needs to arrive three hours early to work overtime, but the system shows that clock-in is not available.**

    1. Two types of overtime rules are currently supported for overtime before the workday starts:

    * **Calculate overtime by Approval time.** The Employee simply submits an Approval form.

    * **After Approval, calculate overtime by clock-in time.** For example, if an Employee starts work at 8:00 and needs to work 2 hours of overtime beforehand, the Employee submits an overtime request from 6:00 to 8:00, clocks in normally before 6:00, and does not need to clock in at 8:00. Once the overtime request is approved, the system calculates 2 hours of overtime.

    2. If you cannot clock in for morning overtime, ask the Admin to sign in to the [**Admin Console**](https://oa.dingtalk.io) **> Workbench > App Management > Attendance > Open > Shift Management >** find the corresponding shift and tap **Edit > Set clock-in period**. Once enabled, you can set the earliest and latest clock-in / clock-out times.

    **⚠️ Notes:**

    Set clock-in period: Clock-ins outside the period do not count toward attendance.
