# Add Email Aliases

> Understand how email aliases let users receive mail at extra addresses in one primary mailbox, and learn how email administrators add aliases to member accounts in the admin console.

An email alias is an additional email address linked to an existing mailbox. It lets users receive emails at one or more additional addresses without creating a separate mailbox account. These alias addresses are linked to the user's primary email address. Messages sent to an alias are automatically delivered to the user's primary mailbox. Users can view and reply to these messages from their primary mailbox while using a different email address as the sender. This gives users greater flexibility and privacy when communicating in different scenarios.

## Key Features

> [card] Multiple identity management
>
> Users who need to maintain separate identities across work, personal life, and social activities can communicate with different groups using different email addresses while managing all messages in one mailbox. This eliminates the need to switch frequently between email accounts.

> [card] Privacy protection
>
> By using disposable aliases or aliases for specific scenarios, users can avoid exposing their primary email addresses when registering on websites or subscribing to services. This helps reduce spam and potential security risks.

> [card] Convenient filtering and organization
>
> Email services typically let users automatically categorize or filter incoming messages based on the alias address. This makes it easier to manage messages, prioritize important email, and work more efficiently.

> [card] Consistent brand identity
>
> Enterprise users can create professional alias addresses that use their company domain, such as `info@yourcompany.com` or `hr@yourcompany.com`, helping strengthen the company's brand image and professionalism.

## Examples

> [tab] Individual user
>
> Zhang San may use `zhangsan@example.com` as his primary personal email address. As an active member of a photography forum, he can set up `photography_zs@example.com` as an alias dedicated to forum communications, helping keep them separate and private.

> [tab] Enterprise environment
>
> A company's customer service department may set up `customer_service@company.com` as a customer service alias. Messages sent to this address are automatically delivered to the team members responsible for customer service, making it easier to manage communications centrally and respond to customer needs.

> [accordion] Technical implementation
>
> Email aliases rely on mail server configuration, which typically involves DNS records, such as MX records, and support from the mail server software. Users can add, delete, or manage aliases through an email client or web interface. The mail server resolves the aliases and ensures that messages are delivered to the correct primary mailbox.

In summary, email aliases are a practical and flexible enhancement to email services. They make communication more convenient while improving privacy and information management, making them an essential part of modern digital communication.
