What Is a Bot

As a standalone app capability, bots play an important role in DingTalk. With just a few simple settings, a bot can send message notifications in direct message or group chat scenarios, or provide interactive services to users. With bots, you can effectively integrate business information and tasks into DingTalk’s chat environment, thereby accelerating workflows and team collaboration.

Bot Types

  • Internal App Bot

Internal app bots give developers the ability to build bots for use within their organization. You can configure the settings of an internal app bot and call the related APIs to send bot messages to DingTalk users or within DingTalk groups. For details, see Create an Internal App Bot.
  • Custom Bot

Connect a custom service through a Webhook and use a custom bot. Custom bots support sending group messages in Internal Groups and regular DingTalk groups, but do not support sending direct messages. For details, see Create a Custom Bot.
  • Group Template Bot

The group template bot is another core component of scenario-based groups. A group template bot can push collaboration information from within an app to the group. A group assistant installed through a group template gains the ability to push messages to the group and respond to @ messages from group users. This lets developers build a highly standardized, general-purpose bot capability that interacts with users in the group. For details, see Create a Group Template Bot.
