Grid view

Grid view is for raw data setup and entry. New blank AI Table files default to grid view — start typing data immediately. Familiar spreadsheet feel plus column-level data types so data is standardized at the source. In an AI Table, every table defaults to Grid view. Grid view lets you edit and view all data and fields fast.

View config

In grid view: field management, filter, group, sort, row height, cell coloring. See View basic operations.

Bottom statistics

Aggregate each column at the bottom. Available aggregations vary by field type. Most fields support unique count, filled count, empty count, and other basics. Date fields: time span and more. Number and currency fields: median, range, standard deviation, etc.

Record hierarchy

Build parent-child relationships in grid view — clearer structure, easier maintenance and collaboration.

Add a sub-record

  1. Select any row in the first column.
  2. Click + Add sub-record at the right of the cell.
  3. A one-way link field is auto-created at the end, named “Parent record” by default. It links to the current table; the linkable scope is all records.
  4. Sub-records do not inherit parent field values.

Delete a sub-record

  1. Right-click the record.
  2. Click Delete 1 row.
Deleting a parent does not delete its sub-records.

Collapse / expand sub-records

Click the arrow on the left of the cell to collapse / expand.

Drag sub-records

  1. Hover the icon on the left of the record.
  2. Hold and drag to move.
Dragging a parent moves all its sub-records along. Both parents and sub-records can be dragged — change order and hierarchy by drag.

FAQ

Q: Max sub-record depth?

A: 4 levels under one parent.

Q: Do advanced permissions on the parent propagate to sub-records?

A: No. Parent and sub-record permissions are independent. To use the “records related to me” rule, fill the member field on both parent and sub-record. Filling only the parent does not affect sub-records.

Q: Can sub-records be a group-by condition?

A: Not yet. Only parent records can be a group-by condition.

Q: How do filter / find results display for sub-records?

A: When a filter or search hits a sub-record, the system also shows all of its parents — keeps the hierarchy visible.
