Group fields to improve readability. With grouping, you can batch reorder fields and add descriptions to keep the table’s structure clear.

Create a group

Method 1:
  1. Click any field name, hold Cmd / Ctrl, and click other fields to select.
  2. Right-click — pick Create group in the context menu.
  3. Enter a group title and confirm.
Method 2:
  1. Click Field management in the upper-left of the table.
  2. In the field list, click the icon on the right of any field to open the menu.
  3. Click Create group.
  4. Enter a group title and confirm.

Move fields in / out of a group

Method 1:
  1. Click the icon on the right of the group title to open the group menu.
  2. Click Edit group.
  3. Add or remove fields.
Method 2:
  1. Hover the field name — right-click or click the icon.
  2. Pick Move into group or Move out of group.
Method 3:
  1. Click Field management in the upper-left of the table.
  2. In the field list, click the icon on the right of a field to open the menu.
  3. Pick Move into group or Move out of group.
  4. To move a field from one group to another, move it out first, then into the new group.

Add and view group descriptions

Method 1:
  1. Click any field name, hold Cmd, and click other fields to select.
  2. Right-click — pick Create group.
  3. In the group editor, click + Group description.
  4. Enter a description and confirm.
  5. An icon appears next to the group title.
  6. Hover the icon to view the description.
Method 2:
  1. Hover the group title — right-click or click the icon.
  2. Pick Group description.
  3. Enter the description and confirm.

Reorder groups

Method 1: hold and drag the group title left / right. Method 2:
  1. Click Field management in the upper-left of the table.
  2. Hold and drag the icon on the left of the group title.

Hide a group

Method 1:
  1. Hover the group title — right-click or click the icon.
  2. Pick Hide group.
Method 2:
  1. Click Field management in the upper-left of the table.
  2. Click the icon on the right of the group name to hide.

Disband a group

Method 1:
  1. Hover the group title — right-click or click the icon.
  2. Pick Disband group.
Method 2:
  1. Click Field management in the upper-left of the table.
  2. Click the icon on the right of the group name to open the menu.
  3. Pick Disband group.

  • Q: Who can use field grouping in AI Table? A: Without advanced permissions, users with edit or manage access can create or edit groups. With advanced permissions on, only users with manage access can.
  • Q: How many groups can a single AI Table table have? A: Up to 300.
  • Q: Does grouping in one grid view apply to other views? A: Yes — grouping applies to all grid views of the table.
