| Node type | Submission rules can be configured on the following nodes.
• Start node: The Start node runs the rule as soon as data is submitted. Use formula functions to configure association actions and validation rules.
• End node: The End node is the endpoint of the workflow. A workflow can end through different node actions, so when you select the End node, you must also select a node action and configure a rule for it. Node actions include Accept, Decline, and Undo/Terminate.
• Approval nodes in the workflow: Approval nodes are the approver or handler nodes defined in the workflow settings, and you can select them directly. After selecting a node, choose the trigger method and the node action for that node.

| Rule type | The following two rule types are supported.
• Validation rules: Validation rules check conditions when a node action is submitted and can block the current action. If the conditions are not met, the submission is blocked.
• Association actions: Association actions do not affect approval actions and do not perform checks. They run other business association formulas at the same time as the configured node action, for example when you perform Accept, Decline, Report error, or Return.
